Barry Trotz loses his cool, throws a stick out onto the ice.

Trotz has had enough.

Coming into the weekend the New York Islanders needed a miracle if they wanted to find a way into the Stanley Cup playoffs, but relatively early on in their game against the St. Louis blues on Saturday it was evident that no such miracle would be forthcoming.

At the time of this writing the Blues currently boast a 4 - 0 lead over the Islanders and it would seem that Islanders head coach Barry Trotz has finally let the frustrations of this current season get the better of him. During the course of the game Trotz became incensed when he was unable to get the attention of the National Hockey League officials on the ice, frustration that was no doubt born in part due to the fact that his team's playoff hopes were withering away.

As a result of his anger, and the officials' decision to ignore Trotz and his staff yelling from the bench, the Islanders head coach eventually grabbed a stick and tried to get the officials attention that way. Trotz would beat and bang the stick against the Islanders bench in an effort to get the officials attention, but when even that failed you could tell his frustration truly reached the boiling point. A furious Trotz lifted the stick and chucked it out onto the ice, something the NHL likely won't be too thrilled about.

If throwing the stick was meant to help him vent that frustration and get it out of his system however, it showed no signs of having worked. When Trotz finally got the attention of the referee you could tell that he was still very heated from having been ignored for so long, and although we can't hear what was being said I'm sure there were at least a few expletives coming from Trotz during that verbal exchange.

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, the National Hockey League decides to do about this in the coming days. If you didn't see the incident live or haven't caught the replay yet, you can check it out in the short video below.
