Beaking: Dion Phaneuf could soon be playing for a new NHL team.

There are some big rumors regarding Dion Phaneuf and his time with the Ottawa Senators.

It appears that the Senators have approached Phaneuf and requested that he waive his no-movement clause for the upcoming National Hockey League Expansion Draft that will usher in the Las Vegas Golden Knights to the NHL.

According to a report from SportsCentre, TSN insider Pierre LeBrun has stated that Phaneuf has been asked, however it appears that Phaneuf has not yet made a decision on whether or not he will be waiving. There is a limited window on this decision from Phaneuf, as the deadline is Friday by 4:00 pm.

Should Phaneuf waive his no-trade, he could be a prime target for the Golden Knights, not only as a player, but as a possible trading chip they could flip to a rival team as they build towards their future. Should he not however, that will leave the Senators in a very vulnerable position that could force a trade, or could cost them a quality player.
