Ben Meyers records his 1st NHL goal just minutes into his 1st NHL game.
A huge moment for the undrafted forward.
It has become quite a popular trend for teams in the National Hockey League to sign free agents out of collegiate hockey after the NHL's trade deadline has come and gone, and this season the Colorado Avalanche were one of the team's that engaged in the practice.
The Avalanche would recruit and eventually sign University of Minnesota Gophers free agent forward Ben Meyers to an NHL contract, and just days after signing him to the deal it has already started to pay off for the Avs.
On Saturday night the Avalanche were facing off against another team destined for the Stanley Cup playoffs in the Carolina Hurricanes and it was during the second period of that contest that Meyers would find his moment. The newly signed forward would pounce on a scoring opportunity in front of the Hurricanes net and would fire in a backhand for his first NHL goal, in his first NHL game, with just 3-4 minutes of total ice time under his belt at that point in time.
