Travis Green shares some bad news on Brady Tkachuk.
The Ottawa Senators are likely very concerned about the health of their captain, forward Brady Tkachuk, right now.
On Monday, Tkachuk appeared to suffer an injury during the first period of a game against the Nashville Predators when he was on the receiving end of a cross check from Predators defenseman Roman Josi. The cross check would send Tkachuk sprawling into the boards head first, with Tkachuk thankfully able to get his hands up in time to protect himself from the worst.
Following the incident however Tkachuk would leave the game favoring his right hand, but after he returned to the game the situation appeared to be resolved. Unfortunately Tkachuk would sit out the final 9 minutes of the game's third period and now Senators head coach Travis Green has confirmed this was not a precautionary move on the part of the Senators. Instead Green confirmed to reporters that Tkachuk was unable to continue due to the injury he suffered during the aforementioned incident, adding that Tkachuk would have to be evaluated by team doctors before he could say more.
"He didn’t finish the game down the stretch, he tried too," said Green on Monday.
Before leaving the ice in the first period Tkachuk was seen favoring his right hand or wrist while doubled over in pain, so that would appear to be the source of the injury although that is only speculation at this time. You can see the replay just below and judge for yourselves:
Obviously losing Tkachuk this early in the season would be a big blow to the Senators given that he is not only one of the team's most valuable players, but also the organization's emotional leader as the captain of their roster.
