For the first time since initial reports surfaced of a herniated disk in his back,Zach Parise admitted that was indeed the source of his injury, and furthermore his comments on the topic did raise some very real concerns.

According to a report from Mike Russo of the Star Tribune, Parise is still not out of the woods, and while Parise told Russo that he felt his recovery was going well, he admitted he could be facing another major setback.

“Rehab is going really well,” said Parise as per the Star Tribune. “I’ve got to continue doing the rehab for a little bit and go from there. But it’s progressing really well.”

It was when Russo pressed him on potential surgery that Parise's answer raised some alarms.

“It’s too early to tell, but I’m optimistic that therapy and the rehab is working really well that we’re going to be able to avoid that.”

Needless to say, if Parise should need back surgery, it could realistically impact his ability to play come the start of next season, and the longer he waits, the further his eventual recovery date moves backs.

There has not been any kind of official word on the likelihood of Parise going under the knife.
