Big trade involving “core player” expected following NHL roster freeze.

We know we won't be seeing any trades in the next few days, the National Hockey League's roster freeze is in full effect, but it sounds like as soon as the roster freeze comes to an end we may be seeing some big changes.

TSN's Darren Dreger believes that the Colorado Avalanche will be forced to make a significant trade coming off the holiday break, describing the situation in that organization as one where "something has to give."

While Dreger stated that any of the teams "core players" could be up for grabs, he specifically named captain Gabriel Landeskog, as well as talented forward Matt Duchene as potential trade targets.

There are a number of teams looking to add a final piece for a playoff run, and others looking to add a piece in the hopes of turning their season around with a goal of merely reaching the playoffs, so you can rest assured that this will draw the interest of teams from across the NHL.
