The Chicago Blackhawks absolutely trounced the Pittsburgh Penguins in their season opener by a ridiculous score of 10-1. A score like this is rare in this day and age - it happened a couple times last season to the Montreal Canadiens, when they lost 10-0 to the Columbus Blue Jackets and subsequently beat the Colorado Avalanche 10-1.

But this 9-goal victory margin is the largest ever in a season opener, tied with the Canadiens' in 1975 and 1976.

The night featured huge performances from several players. Brandon Saad scored a hat trick, Patrick Kane posted 1 goal and 3 assists, while young Ryan Hartman posted an impressive 1 goal and 4 assists on the night.

Blackhawks fans will relish in the fact that they absolutely demolished their direct competitors for best team in the NHL over the last decade.

Sidney Crosby was a -4 on the night.

Chicago also becomes the 5th team to score 10 or more goals in a season opener in NHL history.
