It's fair to say that things haven't gone according to plan for the Minnesota Wild to start the 2022-23 NHL campaign.

The Wild have gone 1-3-1 to start the season and have not looked good for any sustained period of time during their first five games. After a busy offseason in which he worked hard to transform the team's roster, it's clear that GM Bill Guerin is NOT happy with his team's performance. The fiery former NHLer turned GM put his team on blast yesterday in an interview with Wild insider Michael Russo.

From Russo's most recent column for The Athletic:

“Nobody gives a s— what we did last year,” Guerin said. “Nobody cares how good anybody was last year. You have to show up and play hard every single night, and it feels like some of our guys just figured they could step on the ice and we’d be as good a team as last year and they’d be as good a player."

“Our expectations are higher. Things aren’t the same. … We have to get better every year. We have to push. And I think right now, maybe, we thought we were just going to pick up where we left off at the end of the last regular season. But it’s not the case. We have to get better. We are going to be harder on the guys because we expect more.”

- Bill Guerin

Imagine walking into work and you hear your boss talking like that...

I'm certain that the Wild will get the message, but do they have the talent and the drive to deliver on it?

To me, this is a well rounded team that's still lacking something.

They have top end offensive power courtesy of Kirill Kaprizov, good depth with the likes of Mats Zuccarello, Marcus Foligno and Joel Eriksson Ek, but beyond that... what do they really have up front? Jared Spurgeon, Matt Dumba and Jonas Brodin all comprise a solid defense corps... but beyond that...

If we're being real though a lot of the team's problems stem from Marc Andre Fleury's sub-par goaltending. If The Flower can't sort his game out, I'm not sure all the ranting and raving from Guerin will help a damn thing.
