Bill Guerin shares bad news on Matt Boldy's injury.
The Minnesota Wild are now stuck between a rock and a hard place with no obvious solutions.
This leaves the Minnesota Wild in a very tough spot.
On Monday morning, Wild general manager Bill Guerin confirmed that the team would be without the services of forward Matt Boldy for the foreseeable future. Guerin revealed that, while the injury isn't significant enough to place Boldy on long term injured reserve, it is significant enough that he will be out "week to week."
That is less than ideal for a team that is right up against the salary cap, with over $14.7 million of that cap space committed to the buyouts of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter. They will receive no cap relief from long term injured reserve and as a result will be unable to make a call up to replace Boldy in the lineup with their limited cap space.
Boldy suffered the injury during the final period of Saturday's loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, but the nature of that injury has not yet been disclosed. We do know that it is an upper body injury, but the Wild have not shared any additional details.
Boldy scored 31 goals for the Wild last season and is a huge part of what they do offensively, and was getting off to a hot start this season with 2 points through the Wild's first two games of the season.
