UPDATE: NHL insider Chris Johnston with more details of the deal:

This just in, the Chicago Blackhawks have reportedly acquired defenseman Bowen Byram from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for the 4th overall selection in this Friday's NHL Entry Draft, as well as at least one other pick and another player.

From NHL insider Frank Seravalli:

While we don't yet know all the details of this trade, on the surface it looks like a HUGE risk for the Blackhawks. The 4th overall pick alone is a very valuable commodity. I get that the Blackhawks have to turn the corner eventually and turn some of their picks and prospects into actual NHL players, but I just don't see the value in a player like Byram equaling what could be drafted or acquired via a 4th overall pick.

Again, we don't have all the details just yet though. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: Jordan Greenway is reportedly heading to Chicago as part of this deal
