Blackhawks confirm 2 injuries on Sunday.

A significant injury to start the season.

The Chicago Blackhawks made a series of moves coming into this season that indicate the team does not intend to be particularly competitive moving forward, at least not in the immediate future.

This has left the Blackhawks with what I would consider a thinner roster than one would normally expect from a competitive NHL team, and that means that they will be a team more heavily impacted by injuries throughout the course of the season. Unfortunately for the Blackhawks it seems as though their injury woes are starting early, with the team confirming a pair of injuries on Sunday, at least one of which will have an impact on the upcoming regular season.

The Blackhawks announced that forward Jujhar Khaira would be sidelined moving forward, but in this case things don't appear to be too bad. The Blackhawks have listed Khaira as day to day, which would indicate to me that it is likely we will see him back in time for the start of the regular season in just a few days.

Khaira played in 27 games for the Blackhawks last season and picked up 3 goals over that stretch, finishing the season with 13 penalty minutes and a plus minus rating of -4.

In the case of forward Boris Katchouk however the news was considerably less good. The Blackhawks announced that Katchouk will miss a significant length of time, anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks, with what the team has described as a left ankle sprain.

The 23 year old forward made 21 appearances for the Blackhawks last season, scoring just a single goal and finishing the season with 14 penalty minutes and a plus minus rating of -10.
