Blackhawks GM comments on the WARNING shot directed at Joe Quenneville

It wasn’t a surprise then when associate coach Mike Kitchen was relieved of his duties on Monday morning. Who was surprised, however, was the team’s head coach and Kitchen’s long-time friend Joel Quenneville. Few days after, Bowman operated a major clean up as he decided to relieve Ted Dent, Head Coach of the Rockford IceHogs, from his duties. Dent posted a 221-179-33-21 record in six seasons as Head Coach of the IceHogs.

Some people saw those two particular moves as a warning shot directed at Joel Quenneville. In fact, Joel Quenneville was pretty dissapointed of losing his long time friend without even being asked. Blackhawks GM commented on the situation as reported by Brian Hedger for the Sun-Times:

‘‘People think that’s the case, even though there’s no validity to it,’’ said Bowman, ‘‘I learned a long time ago that you can’t control what other people are going to think or say. We know what the truth is, and none of that is accurate. But that’s OK. That’s the way it goes.’’

‘‘We’re not delaying it by any means, but you want to make sure you get the right person,’’ Bowman said. ‘‘Joel’s going to play a big role in that because he’s going to be working with that person day-to-day."

‘‘[The decision] is definitely going to be a joint collaboration,’’ Bowman said. ‘‘The coaches spend every day and several hours every day together. I interact with them, but not to the level they do.’’
