Blackhawks make a stunning announcement involving Bobby Hull.

Blackhawks finally take action.

The Chicago Blackhawks have made a surprising decision.

According to a report from Bruce Levine of 670 The Score, the Blackhawks have parted ways with former Blackhawks forward Bobby Hull. Hull, often referred to as "The Golden Jet" played for the Blackhawks from 1957 to 1972 and is the all time franchise leader in goals with 604 National Hockey League goals recorded as a member of the Blackhawks.

Over the last several years Hull has served in an ambassador's role for the Blackhawks but his association with the franchise has always been a point of controversy for some. Hull has been heavily criticized due to allegations of domestic abuse that have followed him throughout his time as a prominent figure in the National Hockey League and he has a history of making what I would diplomatically refer to as highly questionable comments on a variety of topics.

The Blackhawks made no indication of the fact that this played a role in their decision to part ways with Hull as an ambassador. That being said the team has been something of a public relations disaster since former Blackhawks' forward Kyle Beach came forward with accusations that he was assaulted by former Blackhawks' video coach Brad Aldrich, including a recent outburst from team owner Rocky Wirtz that did the team no favors in the eyes of the public. It's hard to believe that it hasn't played a factor in the decision announced today, although the Blackhawks were very vague when it came to giving a reason for the decision.

"We're redefining the role of team ambassador, which unfortunately comes on the heels of losing two very special members of that family,” the team said as per Levin's report. “When it comes to Bobby specifically, we jointly agreed earlier this season that he will retire from any official team role.”

The reaction from fans commenting on the story appear to be largely positive, with many indicating that they felt this is a decision the team should have made several years ago. Of the original group of 4 ambassador's promoted by the team in an effort to help them market themselves to fans, now only Denis Savard remains. The team cut ties with Hull today, Stan Mikita sadly passed away in 2018, and Tony Esposito also sadly passed away in 2021.
