There is an intriguing situation happening between the pipes in Chicago and fans will be surprised to hear that another move could be in the cards for veteran goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. Yes, the same guy that considered retirement when he was traded by the Vegas Golden Knights this summer to come to Chicago…

According to Emily Kaplan of ESPN, there is a complicated situation taking place in Chicago as “interim GM Kyle Davidson is still in “evaluation mode,” and he and the front office haven’t decided what their plan is for the team — or Fleury.”

That means a trade is still on the table. Kaplan reports that the Blackhawks are open to any trade proposals that come their way, though it will come with challenges. Fleury has a 10-team no-trade list and was already unsure about moving his family from Vegas to Chicago. He was convinced to do so and may not be open to move again with a months left on the last year of his contract.

Chicago doesn’t even know the market for Fleury, though the Hawks would certainly get a lot of calls. The Edmonton Oilers have been linked to Fleury, as Kaplan points out:

“I’ve also had two people — on a purely speculative basis — suggest a Fleury-Oilers partnership would make a lot of sense. Again, Fleury would have to be on board, but the idea of him trying to chase a Stanley Cup in Canada with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl is exciting.”

Who knows - the idea of playing with McDavid and the chance at hoisting the Stanley Cup before hanging up the pads could be what convinces Fleury to be traded again.

We should know more around the trade deadline as Kaplan expects the Blackhawks to trade players away than acquiring players as the team focuses on continuing the rebuild and restocking for the future.
