A tough start for the Blackhawks rookie camp.

The Chicago Blackhawks rookie camp is underway and unfortunately for the Blackhawks it has started off on the wrong foot.

According to a report from Blackhawks insider Charlie Roumeliotis, Blackhawks prospect Colton Dach has in fact been injured. On Friday Roumeliotis reported that Dach appeared to have been injured during Day 1 of the rookie showcase against the Minnesota Wild, a fact that he picked up on when Dach missed every shift after the first period.

Now we have an update on the status of Dach and unfortunately it now seems clear that Roumeliotis' suspicions has been confirmed. According to the NBC reporter, Dach has now been placed in the National Hockey League's concussion protocol and as a result will be out of action moving forward.

To be clear this does not necessarily confirm that Dach has in fact suffered a concussion, but it does at the very least suggest that the Blackhawks have some concerns about the possibility and are taking every precaution. If Dach is indeed out due to a concussion, it could be some time before he is eligible to return, although it is near impossible to accurately predict a timeframe for his return without more information.

The 19 year old 2nd round pick *62nd overall) at the 2021 NHL Entry Draft spent last season with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League, scoring 29 goals and adding 50 assists over his 61 games played in the regular season.
