Fans in Chicago and all across the country of Canada have held their collective breath all weekend long as they await an update on injured Chicago Blackhawks star forward Connor Bedard.

Bedard suffered a very concerning looking injury over the weekend when a face-off with 0.8 seconds left in the game turned into a total disaster. Bedard, who was taking the face-off against St. Louis Blues captain Brayden Schenn, simply collapsed to the ice immediately after the puck was dropped while clutching at his right arm and shoulder.

Bedard was able to leave the ice under his own power, but it was clear that something was very wrong with his arm. Here is a look at the replay:

It looked bad at the time but without any kind of official update from the Blackhawks there has been no way to know just how serious things are.

On Monday morning we finally got our first official update from the Blackhawks who confirmed that Bedard is currently dealing with an upper body injury, doing so after placing Bedard on injured reserve. Bedard is being placed on injured reserve retroactive to Friday December 12th when the injury occurred, which means that he will be ineligible to play through the 19th of December. Players placed on injured reserve must miss at least 7 days of action, which would leave Saturday as the earliest possible return date for Bedard.

Unfortunately we still don't know a great deal about the specific nature of the injury or if Bedard could potentially be absent well beyond that date, but it is clear that the Blackhawks intend to be pretty tight lipped about this situation.

Stay tuned for more updates as we will bring them to you as soon as they become available.
