WOW! If Don Sweeney can pull this off!
The time is now for the Boston Bruins. The team currently sits on top of the entire league with 72 points and are the favourite in almost all odd-makings to win the Stanley Cup ahead of the postseason.
And it looks like general manager is working on a blockbuster plan to make sure no one stands in the Bruins’ way this time around.
On Sportsnet, during last night’s Toronto Maple Leafs broadcast, Elliotte Friedman revealed how Boston was not only working hard at extending forward David Pastrnak on a huge deal, but were also putting a plan to acquire Vancouver Canucks captain Bo Horvat ahead of the trade deadline.
This is not the first time that Horvat has been linked to the Bruins. Earlier this season with chatter emerging that the captain’s time has come to an end in Vancouver, Sportsnet’s Ryan Dixon had mentioned how Boston could potentially land Horvat along with forward Aidan McDonough in return for forwards Fabian Lysell and John Beecher, their 2023 first round pick and 2023 sixth round pick.
While Friedman did not mention what the trade offer could be for the Bruins to get their hands on Horvat, he did reveal that Sweeney might be looking to sign him long-term and not just use him as a rental.
Horvat’s final year of a six-year contract at a cap hit of $5.5 million could be tight to fit in Boston. He will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and is set for a raise. It makes sens that Horvat would go for a high price.
The Bruins are looking to win now, especially with captain Patrice Bergeron coming back on a one-year contract for one last shot at the Stanley Cup before possibly hanging up the skates.
If the Bruins can secure Pasta long-term and then get the talent and leadership of Horvat on top, it will be hard to stop Boston when the playoffs come around!
