The St. Louis Blues fell to the Colorado Avalanche in a heartbreaking manner in their first round robin game of the NHL playoff tournament. Nazem Kadri scored a buzzer-beating power-play goal to give the Avalanche a 2-1 comeback victory over the defending Stanley Cup champions… This had to be tough to swallow for the Blues, who need to swallow another huge pill on Tuesday.

However, this one is also sweet.

According to TSN’s Frank Seravalli, Blues forward Ivan Barbashev has left the team and the bubble in Edmonton to be with his wife as they await the birth of their first child.

You see, bittersweet.

According to protocol, Barbashev will have to quarantine upon return until he can produce at least four consecutive negative tests over a four-day period.

The 24-year-old recorded six points in 25 playoff games for the Blues last season en route to the first Stanley Cup in franchise history. In 69 games this season, he put up 11 goals and 26 points while averaging just over 13 minutes a game. He was pointless in Sunday’s game against the Avs.

Blues head coach Craig Berube has made it clear that when Barbashev returns he will re-enter the lineup.

We can understand why Barbashev didn’t want to miss the birth of his first child. Congratulations to the Barbashev family. We hope for a healthy baby and a healthy Barbashev upon his return to Edmonton.
