Blues consider filing a tampering charge towards Vegas!

On Monday night, the Vegas Golden Knights proudly announced that they had signed defenseman Alex Pietrangelo to a seven-year, $61.6 million contract with an AAV of $8.8 million.

While they might have been celebrating on the strip, the St. Louis Blues had something else on their minds. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Blues are considering filing a tampering charge towards the Golden Knights, as the insider explained on the latest edition of the 31 Thoughts podcast.

Earlier on Tuesday,Friedman admitted that the New York Islanders had filed a tampering charge against the Toronto Maple Leafs right after they made the signing of John Tavares official.

Though nothing came of this one, it remains to be seen if the Blues could push an investigation onto the Golden Knights.

The Blues had tried very hard to keep their captain in St. Louis ahead of the opening of free agency on Friday.

“We tried to sign (Alex). I want to give our ownership a ton of credit, going to the maximum number of years available… We used every tool under the CBA to ensure we could get something done. It just didn’t work out,” explained Blues GM Doug Armstrong.

“I look back on (talks). I’m not really sure why. I was hoping to get something done. We talked a lot. We exchanged offers during the season, during the pandemic. Multiple offers post-pandemic.”

It was reported during the process of trying to keep Pietrangelo with the Blues that the team had offer him $8M AAV, however, they couldn’t say what the length of the deal would be at that time.

On Tuesday, the blue liner explained he chose Vegas because he ‘was impressed with what the organization could offer.’

Now the Blues are wondering if the Golden Knights made their offer or their attentions known before it was legal to do so… Maybe an investigation is coming!
