The Blues issue a public statement after a sign sparks outrage on social media.
The St. Louis Blues were forced to deal with an unfortunate situation last week when a group of fans or activists decided to use a Blues game as the platform for their particular political message.
The culprits in question showed up to the game and unfurled a large sign that depicted an Israeli flag with what was supposed to be blood on it, with the sign also containing the words "Israel Kills."
Many were quick to express their outrage over the fact that the sign had appeared during the Blues game:
As you might expect the staff at Enterprise Center quickly moved to remove the offenders from the building with Enterprise Center asking fans to only bring signs that are related to the event they are attending. Some fans even captured video of the activists being escorted out of the building, much to the delight of the other fans who were simply trying to enjoy the game.
Although they played no part in the incident that occurred, on Monday the Blues issued a public statement condemning the actions of the fans who had been removed from the building, with that statement coming directly from Blues owner Tom Stillman.
"The St. Louis Blues organization — and I personally — condemn antisemitic rhetoric in all forms. The vile messages of hate briefly displayed at our game last Thursday were unfortunate and unforgivable, and not remotely representative of our fans or our hometown. Our arena staff and local law enforcement responded immediately to confiscate the prohibited banners and eject the offending individuals.
Antisemitism has no place in our community, and we will never allow it in our building."
