Blues make major changes ahead of Game 4 against the Wild.
Blues shaking things up.
The Minnesota Wild have taken a 2 - 1 series lead over the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs and it looks like the Blues are searching for answers as they make significant changes to their lineup ahead of a pivotal Game 4 in this series.
One of the issues for the Blues over the course of their 2 losses has been the unreliable goaltending of netminder Ville Husso, who after starting the series with a shutout in Game 1 has allowed 9 goals over the course of the last 2 games. Husso now boasts a 3.02 goals against average and a .906 save percentage over the 3 games, not a great stat line when weighing the fact that the first game was, again, a shutout.
The issue for the Blues of course is that Husso largely outplayed veteran goaltender Jordan Binnington in the regular season with Binnington recording a 3.13 goals against average and a .901 save percentage over his 37 appearances on the season. In spite of this though it would appear as though head coach Craig Berube will be pivoting to Binnington for Game 4 in the hopes that he can find his game and lead them through a run in the playoffs as he has done for the Blues in the past.
This isn't the only big change Berube has made for today's game though, and in fact 2 veteran players are destined for the sidelines today as Berube looks for different options. According to Blues insider Jeremy Rutherford, both veterans Nick Leddy and Robert Bortuzzo are out of today's game and instead it sounds like it will be 23 year old Blues rookie defenseman Scott Perunovich and veteran Blues defenseman Steven Santini that come into the lineup today in their place.
If the Blues fail to pick up a win on Sunday they will give the Wild a 3 - 1 stranglehold on this series and therefore it comes as no surprise that Berube is desperately looking for a solution.
