Wow.
The former captain of the Vancouver Canucks has inked a max deal with his new team, before even playing a single game with the team.
According to an official press release from the New York Islanders, the team has come to terms on a new deal with star forward Bo Horvat that will carry the maximum possible term of 8 years. As is traditionally the case with teams run by Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello, the financial terms and details of this contract have not been released by the Islanders.
Update:
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has now confirmed that the average annual value on Horvat's new deal will be $8.5 million per season. That brings the total value of this new deal to a whopping $68 million over the course of the 8 year contract.
