Team Canada’s newly named forward leaves game early, raising questions about his availability.
Just 24 hours after being officially named to Team Canada’s Olympic roster, center Bo Horvat was forced to leave Thursday’s game for the New York Islanders due to an injury.
Horvat exited in the third period against the Utah Mammoth after what appeared to be a minor collision with defenseman Sean Durzi. The forward seemed to experience significant pain. His knee appeared to be impacted, and he struggled to get off the ice. He did not return to the game.
Following the contest, Islanders head coach Patrick Roy said Horvat would meet with the team physician on Friday, with more information expected after that consultation.
Horvat has earned his spot on Team Canada especially since he has been having a strong season, tallying 21 goals and 33 points in 36 games, and was on track for career highs before the injury.
Should Horvat be unable to participate, Team Canada has reportedly identified Carolina Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis as the first replacement in case of injury.
Fans will be watching closely over the next 24 hours to see if Horvat can recover in time and maintain his Olympic bid.
According to insider Pierre LeBrun, Horvat’s injury isn’t too serious.
"Certainly not when it comes to Olympic implications. Good news for Team Canada," he posted later on Friday.
