Bob McKenzie suggests blockbuster trade for Nylander with 24 hours to go until RFA deadline!
TSN

In 24 hours, there will be no more clock. You've heard it ticking for the past months now and it is almost the end of the ongoing questions: will the Toronto Maple Leafs be able to re-sign William Nylander, will he be traded, or will he sit out the entire year?!

In the meantime, fans and pundits are putting out all sorts of speculation and potential trade packages in return for the 22-year-old forward, but it sure seems like one of the best NHL insiders out there, Bob McKenzie of TSN, has suggested the most outrageous one.

We want to know what you think about it and if you can imagine this coming together before tomorrow at 5pm!

If the Leafs were to trade Nylander, McKenzie would see the young forward ending up with the Columbus Blue Jackets in return for talented defenseman Zach Wrenski, who is set to become a restricted free agent at the end of this season. Werenski would therefore fill the biggest void in Toronto, improving the team's back end, and Nylander could offset the eventual loss of star striker Artemi Panarin at the end of the season. The Russian forward seems more and more unlikely to sign a long-term contract extension in Columbus...

What do you think of his suggestion?

Imagine the scenario: The Leafs, already dominant up front, who would add a young elite blue liner to add to their roster!

There is no lack of trade rumors when it comes to Nylander. Earlier today, McKenzie's TSN colleague Frank Seravalli revealed on Twitter that the Philadelphia Flyers are believed to be one of the team’s that’s been in contact with GM Kyle Dubas regarding the 22-year-old player.

Things have changes drastically in Philadelphia since the Flyers have fired general manager Ron Hextall on Monday, and a much more aggressive president Paul Holmgrenhas taken over. Pierre LeBrun also reported yesterday that the Leafs were making their final rounds with teams before making a final decision.

Nylander must sign a contract by Saturday at 5pm et in order to play in the NHL this season, leaving the team with two days to work out a deal.

Earlier this week, the Leafs informed rival clubs that they “will not take on salary that disrupts its future cap situation.” Dubas remains set on coming to terms with Nylander, though has admitted that he needs to start looking into the possibility of moving him to a rival team if an agreement cannot be reached between both parties.

Werenski could be an option for the Leafs' expected playoff run this coming spring...
