Back in November, then-Anaheim Ducks general Manager Bob Murray was in hot water. He had been placed on administrative leave pending an ongoing investigation related to professional conduct, which revealed that he had thrown a chair at a female employee. He then resigned and entered an alcohol recovery program.

On Wednesday morning, Eric Stephens of The Athletic reports that Murray has now joined the Calgary Flames as a scout, who will largely operate on the West Coast.

He even attended last night’s game between the Ducks and San Jose Sharks.

The Ducks have moved on anyway, hiring Pat Verbeek as Murray’s permanent successor back on Feb. 3.

Murray is getting another shot and can probably thank Flames head coach Darryl Sutter for it. As Stephens explains the two were teammates on the Chicago Blackhawks in the early 1980s and have kept in close touch.

“Despite being Stanley Cup-contending rivals during a time when Murray presided over the Ducks and Sutter coached the Los Angeles Kings, the two have formed a tight relationship over the decades.”

With this new job opportunity in the NHL, Murray can stay close to his family and keep focusing on his recovery. This was his statement when he handed in his resignation back in November.

“I want to apologize to anyone adversely affected by my behavior,” Murray said in November. “As I step away from the Ducks, I will focus my attention on where it should be: improving my life for the betterment of my family and friends.”

And hockey, too.
