With each year that goes by in the NHL, a team's push to the Cup becomes the story of the season. Whether it's the Blackhawks turning the franchise around on a dime or the long legacies of Detroit, the history book is filled with emotions and surprises.

The most notable surprise this year is probably the Sens' performance so far. Every analyst saw them getting kicked out of the Playoffs in the first round quickly against the Bruins. Then they got to the second round and it was expected the Rangers would beat them up. Now that they've reached the conference finals and grabbed a 1-0 lead in their series against the Penguins, their story has reached yet a new surprising twist.

One reason for this year's performance is Bobby Ryan. His awesome plays fired the Sens up and it's amazing to see his level of play reaching yet another level in the third round. Brian Burke, who drafted him back 2005 as a 2nd overall, opened up about what he sees in Ryan these days and how he wished it were the case back in the days.

It's hard to find the right word for his sentiments. His Burke nostalgic, melancholic, sad, happy? Tough to say. However, you can bet he wished Bobby Ryan had performed at that level in the five years he played in Anaheim. Sure, he had good stats back then, but the intensity and emotions were lacking. Ryan's 2.0 play has a lot of people talking!
