They may be back to back Stanley Cup champions, but it took a goalie fight and a gutless move from Matthew Tkachuk for Americans to finally give a damn about the Florida Panthers.

The Panthers went viral on social media around the world last night after a crazy game against the San Jose Sharks that featured some truly memorable moments.

First off, superstar forward Matthew Tkachuk made his season debut and was immediately dumped on his ass by Sharks defenseman Vincent Desharnais.

Check it out:

Welcome back, Chucky... now sit down and shut up.

Tkachuk then got into a bit of a jousting match with Desharnais and stuck Desharnais in the gut with a spear. Tkachuk, as he is wont to do, then tried to get away from Desharnais, but he got chased down and turtled until the linesman intervened.

Just another punk move from a punk player...

I love that he suddenly gets tough again as soon as the linesman gets involved...

So, while that clip was going viral on sports media we were treated to one of the world's rarest, most precious things: A goalie fight!

As tempers continued to flare Sharks goalie Alex Nedeljkovic got himself into the fray, interjecting into a scrum behind his net, prompting Panthers legend Sergei Bobrovsky to storm down the ice and chuck off the trapper and waffle board!

Feast your eyes, hockey fans:

There's nothing quite like an old fashioned goalie fight!

That clip went viral on social media everywhere, becoming the #1 post on Reddit, Facebook and Twitter (X lol).

Gary Bettman may hate it but it's clear that hockey fans love fighting. If you really want to grow this sport in America we need to get back to the good ol days of bench clearing brawls!
