Being an Original 6 franchise certainly has monetary benefits.
The Boston Bruins are officially the National Hockey League's 5th most valuable franchise according to Sportico's annual valuations of the league's teams. Their official net worth according to Sportico comes in at $1.31 billion, up from $1 billion last December.
The vast majority of the team's value consists of ticket and suite sales, in-arena food and beverage purchases, making up approximately 70% of the net worth.
Not surprisingly, the Toronto Maple Leafs have topped the list with a value of $2 billion. Following them are the New York Rangers ($1.87 billion), Montreal Canadiens ($1.5 billion) and Chicago Blackhawks ($1.36 billion). The top five teams, which represent just over 15 percent of the NHL's 32 teams, take in nearly 25% of the League's total revenue.
The final remaining Original 6 franchise in the Detroit Red Wings comes in at 10th on the list at a value of $1.03 billion. Ahead of them on the list are Los Angels Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers and Washington Capitals. The average net worth of an NHL team in 2021 clocks in at 934 million.
