Drop the puck!
The pressure is already mounting in Raleigh.
After a thrilling 5-4 victory in Game 1, the Vegas Golden Knights will look to seize complete control of the 2026 Stanley Cup Final when they face the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 2 on Thursday night. Vegas enters the contest holding a 1-0 series lead after storming back from an early two-goal deficit and stealing home-ice advantage from Carolina.
Game 1 had everything hockey fans could ask for. Carolina jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of goals from Nikolaj Ehlers, including one just 25 seconds into the game. But the Golden Knights never panicked. Led by a three-point performance from Shea Theodore and a late game-winning goal from Tomas Hertl, Vegas showcased the resilience that has defined its playoff run.
Now the spotlight shifts to Carolina. The Hurricanes have been one of the NHL's most dominant teams throughout the postseason, suffering very few setbacks before dropping Game 1 on home ice. Head coach Rod Brind'Amour will be looking for a stronger defensive effort after his club allowed five goals for the first time in weeks. Carolina's top players, including Nikolaj Ehlers, Seth Jarvis and captain Jordan Staal, will need to capitalize on their scoring chances and avoid chasing the game against an experienced Vegas roster.
It appears that the Hurricanes will ice the same lineup in the same combinations for Game 2 that they employed in Game 1.
For the Golden Knights, the formula remains simple. Continue getting elite performances from stars like Jack Eichel, Mitch Marner and Theodore while relying on their remarkable depth throughout the lineup. Vegas has already swept the heavily favored Colorado Avalanche and now finds itself just three wins away from another Stanley Cup championship.
Head coach John Tortorella confirmed to reporters that everyone from Game 1 is available for Game 2, but he stopped short of announcing any lineup changes.
History is also on the Golden Knights' side. Teams that win Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final go on to capture the Stanley Cup more than three-quarters of the time, making tonight's contest feel like a must-win game for Carolina despite the series being only one game old.
Expect another fast-paced, physical affair with plenty of emotion. The Hurricanes desperately need a split before the series shifts to Las Vegas, while the Golden Knights have an opportunity to put the Eastern Conference champions in a very deep hole. If Game 1 was any indication, hockey fans are in for another instant classic.
