Recently diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, Brian Boyle is fighting hard to make a miraculously early return to the New Jersey Devils.
However, the forward will not be in the lineup for the Devils' opener against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.
Boyle skated alongside teammate Mike McLeod, who has a lower-body injury, but neither will be in uniform Saturday.
The Devils are prioritizing a complete recovery. Fortunately, the cancer was caught early and the treatment has been going well.
