Brad Marchand caught making threats in hot-mic incident!

It’s never pretty when the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs meet up at center ice and on March 7 it was no different. During the first period, Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe cross checked Bruins captain Brad Marchand right in the neck once the play was called dead. Not only was the move a dangerous one, it was also caught on microphone as Marchand was mic’ed up for the game against Toronto.
The Bruins just recently released the segment from that scrum in which Bruins blue liner Charlie McAvoy clearly calls out McCabe, telling him he risks to be suspended for his action, while the mic catches Marchand yelling at the Maple Leafs’ defender and threatening him, hinting at pay back in the contest.
There is a lot said, especially when it comes to all the bleeps the team had to insert in the segment:
On the play, McCabe was assessed an interference penalty for his cross-check on Jake DeBrusk and Matthew Knies went to the box for roughing on the same sequence. David Pastrnak got the Bruins on the board with a power play goal during their two men advantage.
A day later, McCabe was also fined $5,000 for his cross-check on Marchand, whose teammate McAvoy was also fined $5,000 by the NHL Department of Player Safety for cross-checking Tyler Bertuzzi five minutes into the second period.
Marchand never turned his threats into action and stayed focused on the game that was ultimately won 4-1 by Boston. This was the last game of the season between Boston and Toronto, but who knows, they may face off in the postseason, where the rivalry always intensifies.
