Brad Marchand gets caught in the act on Saturday night.
The National Hockey League as a whole has gotten wise to the antics of Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand over the many years that have spanned his career in the NHL, but that has hardly slowed down the veteran forward when it comes to trying to get an edge on his opponents.
On Saturday night that was a lesson the Columbus Blue Jackets learned the hard way when they found themselves on the wrong end of one of Marchand's many ploys. This time around it was Marchand trying to get a sense of what the Blue Jackets were game planning at a critical moment in the game and, although he was eventually caught, it seems likely that Marchand did get the information he wanted.
The incident occurred during the overtime frame between the Blue Jackets and Panthers on Saturday night, specifically during a timeout called by Blue Jackets head coach Dean Evason. As Evason was yelling out instructions to the players huddled in front of the Blue Jackets bench, Marchand snuck up right behind those players and began to listen in on the game plan. It was very rat-like behavior on the part of Marchand who very much lived up to one of his many nicknames in that moment, but I also have no doubt that fans in Florida were loving every second of it and rightfully so.
The Blue Jackets did eventually catch on however and were quick to shoo Marchand away, but not before giving us a hilarious moment to enjoy during the game. You can see the whole thing unfold in the short clip below:
