Ugly scene!

Many at-home referees are going to want in on this one, but this is what happened on Monday night in the game between the Boston Bruins and Columbus Blue Jackets.

During the first period, as the Bruins were looking to tie things up, forward Brad Marchand charged towards Jackets’ Andrew Peeke and it looks like he jumps off his feet to hit his opponent’s head. Peeke fell hard on the ice after the collision, in which Marchand never played the puck.

As Peeke laid motionless on the ice, his absence made room for the Bruins and Charlie McAvoy found Jake DeBrusk for the breakaway goal.

It’s all here:

The Bruins not only scored while Peeke was down, but weren’t short-handed for the remainder of the period. Marchand was not penalized on the play while Peeke struggled to leave the ice.

Trainers got to Peeke after the ugly scene and this one is going to get talked about a lot, especially if NHL Player Safety takes a look at it.

You know, after all, this is Brad Marchand… The good news is that Peeke was bench on the bench for the second period.
