Brad Marchand offers backhanded compliment to Leafs after Game 2 loss

The Toronto Maple Leafs thought that the best way to avenge goalie Anthony Stolarz, who is sidelined thanks to Florida Panthers’ Sam Bennett, was to get the win in Game 2 of their second round series. And that’s exactly what they did on Wednesday night, getting a 4-3 win over the Panthers. They are heading to Florida with a 2-0 series lead.
According to Chris Johnston, This is the first time since 1963 where the Maple Leafs held 2-0 leads in two different playoff series during one postseason.
It's also the first time that Toronto has won the first two games of a series later than the opening round since 1987.
When Johnston spoke with Panthers’ Brad Marchand, who has faced the Maple Leafs in the postseason many times in the past as a member of the Boston Bruins, the veteran forward admitted that this is a better Toronto team than he’s faced in past years.
And of course, Marchand could not help but take a shot at the Leafs at the same time.
“They came ready to play this round. We see that.”
Marchand knows how Toronto has failed to reach in third round series or the Stanley Cup Final in decades. And so the Panthers’ forward decided to play some mind games ahead of Game 3 on Friday night.
