Brad Marchand reveals what he said to Tony DeAngelo.

The truth... according to Brad Marchand.

The Boston Bruins have tied up their 7 game series against the Carolina Hurricanes in the opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs at 2 games a piece, and we are now headed to what will effectively be a best of 3 between these 2 teams.

Although the scoreline might lead you to believe that the Bruins dominated the contest, they would win by a score of 5 - 2, it was a hotly contested affair and one that resulted in several clashes between Bruins agitator Brad Marchand and controversial Hurricanes defenseman Tony DeAngelo. Marchand and DeAngelo got into it after the whistle when the opening period of the game came to a close and you could see that the pair were trading insults, but we unfortunately could not hear what was being said.

So of course following the game reporters were quick to ask Marchand about the numerous exchanges he had with DeAngelo throughout the game, and most notably about what had been said between the two competitors on the ice. When asked what he had said to provoke the Hurricanes defenseman, Marchand downplayed his role in the entire exchange by claiming that he was simply being courteous and asked DeAngelo "How's your Mother's Day?"

Somehow I doubt very much that these are in fact the words that Marchand used during their exchange, but that is his version of events. Whatever he did say may very well have gotten under the skin of DeAngelo, who at the end of the game threw his stick towards Marchand as the Bruins agitator put the game away with an empty net goal.

Marchand would also share his thoughts on the win following the game, the absence of Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy who has been sidelined as a result of Covid, what picking up yet another multi point playoff game means to him, and the importance of winning overall and you can hear all of his thoughts in the short clip below courtesy of the Boston Bruins.
