Brad Marchand shows Lane Hutson, and his family, no mercy.
Brad Marchand is up to some of his old tricks.
For many years Marchand was known to fans of the Montreal Canadiens as enemy number one. Marchand and his Boston Bruins were a constant thorn in the side of the Habs, but it seemed as though things might change moving forward with Marchand joining the ranks of the Florida Panthers this past season.
Unfortunately for the Habs, it seems that old habits die hard.
This week, Marchand decided to chime in on the recent controversy created by Rob Hutson, father of Montreal Canadiens star defenseman Lane Hutson. Rob recently appeared on a podcast to express his displeasure with how his son had been left off the United States' Olympic Orientation roster, feeling that Lane deserved one of the spots on that very short list after a Calder Trophy winning season.
It was Rob's comments regarding a possible defection to Team Canada however that really stirred the pot.
"You never know what happens in the future," said Rob Hutson of his son being snubbed. "My boys are also Canadian."
The clear implication here is that, if Lane doesn't receive better treatment from Team USA's management, the Hutson family might consider taking their talents north of the border for future Olympic events. Those comments caused a lot of controversy, controversy that even Canadian players don't seem to be very fond of.
Marchand, who has been a regular fixture on Canadian rosters, made it clear that he feels Lane Hutson should keep his father from making these kinds of public comments.
"Get this guy in check," said Marchand, tagging Lane Hutson in the process.
Do you agree with Brad Marchand's take on the controversial comments from Lane Hutson's father? Or is publicly calling out a young player in this manner a step too far? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
