Brad Marchand shares concerning update on social media.

The Florida Panthers may have just received some bad news.

Throughout the summer there has been a ton of hype building around a hockey event in Slovakia, one that is being billed as "Zee's Last Shift." As you may have guess, it is an event that will serve as a farewell for longtime National Hockey League veteran Zdeno Chara and it is expected to feature a veritable who's who of former Chara teammates.

You would expect that nothing would keep any of Chara's former teammates from attending the event, and that's why it came as such a surprise when, through the event's official Instagram page, former Bruins captain Brad Marchand announced that he would not be making the event.

In the video, Marchand explains that he was attempting to heal from an injury throughout the summer but unfortunately reached a point where surgery became the only option. That option unfortunately comes with a long recovery and rehabilitation time, time that has forced Marchand to cancel his highly anticipated appearance at the event.

"Had to kind of do it last minute and with the time and the recovery I'm going to need I won't be able to make it and play in the game, unfortunately," revealed Marchand. "I need to do the rehab and take care of that so I can get back on the ice soon."

We are of course only a little more than a month away from the start of the 2026-27 National Hockey League regular season and you have to wonder if this might impact Marchand's availability for the Panthers to start the season.
