Wow. No one expected that.
Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand made his return to Boston on Tuesday night and the Bruins’ fanbase made him cry. This marked Marchand’s first game in Boston since he was traded by the Bruins ahead of the deadline in March and the team and fans wanted to honour him.
After the game, Marchand was swarmed by reporters, revealing to them what made him break down in tears at the TD Garden.
“As soon as I saw my kids on the screen, it kind of hit like a ton of bricks,” Marchand said postgame. “The memories. The emotions of everything. The years and the incredible times. It just kind of comes pouring into your memory. It’s just crazy to see.”
He was also on live TV on ESPN where host Steve Levy asked him a powerful question, one that Marchand no one had asked him, which made the panel laughed.
But the veteran was serious and gave the most thoughtful answer you could possibly ask for when Levy asked him if he had any regrets about the way things went down in Boston back in March, when he was traded to the Panthers.
The answer is powerful and emotional. And Marchand just had the perfect way to explain what he and his family went through.
Watch here below:
Marchand was selected by the Bruins back in 2006 and spent the first 15-plus seasons of his career in Boston after debuting in the 2009-10 season. He played a pivotal role in the team winning the Stanley Cup in 2011 and was named captain in 2023. His answer certainly hits home when you see what he experienced with the franchise, who had named him captain in 2023.
Marchand, who drew a penalty and added two assists, is a honest guy that keeps reminding fans that hockey players are human beings living through the tough emotions of trades and tributes.
