Brady Tkachuk has landed on the trade block!

Just days before the trade deadline, rumours of a crazy deal is trending:

The chatter surrounding the future of some Ottawa Senators is only increasing as we get closer to the March 8 trade deadline, and now it’s gotten quite serious as captain Brady Tkachuk is getting involved in rumours.

A few days ago, former NHL defenseman and now co-host of the Spittin Chiclets podcast Ryan Whitney wondered if Tkachuk could end up elsewhere after the deadline. Whitney posted on X, formerly known as Twitter:

“The Sens have something cooking right now. Rumor Boys hearing that Ottawa would maybe move Brady Tkachuk. Can’t believe it though because no one could be that dumb. 9 points out of playoffs with 2 games in hand.”

And when he posted that, I tended to agree with Whitney. But then on Tuesday night, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports was back at it again when he reported that there could be some truth to the whole Tkachuk landing on the block.

That’s because Lavoie believes Whitney might have heard about from the captain’s own father Keith Tkachuk, and could also be due to his connections to the St. Louis Blues. They are also looking at making significant deals on the market as many players in the organizations are unhappy with how the current season has unfolded. This is translated from Lavoie’s comments on JiC on TVA Sports last night.

“There is a lot of noise surrounding Tkachuk,” said Lavoie. “Noise that has been around since the start of the season. It’s a dark cloud hanging over the team.

“Who’s pissing in Ryan Whitney’s ears? Lavoie then asked. Papa Tkachuk? Look at the St. Louis Blues. There is discontent among some Blues players, maybe there’s something to be done with that.

“There is something that is happening and it is happening a certain way. I’m told there are players who are not happy with the way things are going with the Senators. And the leaders are not happy with the way things are going with young players in the organization. One thing is clear: whether Brady Tkachuk remains put or no, big decisions will have to be made.”

A few weeks, Tkachuk was adamant that the Senators could claw their way back into the postseason. However as of Wednesday, Ottawa sits in last place of the Atlantic division, and is 16 points away from the last Wild Card playoff spot in the Eastern conference, currently held by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Not sure Tkachuk is as confident now… Maybe this is why trade rumours are louder now, but I would definitely be stunned if Senators general manager Steve Staois were to start from scratch and and move the heart and soul of the organization in Tkachuk…

The young captain has put up 26 goals and 50 points through 56 games this season. While I’m sure he dreams of taking part into the postseason and leading his team to a Stanley Cup championship, I can believe he’s already given up on the Sens…
