This is how you show up in your first game as a captain in the National Hockey League.

Earlier this week the Ottawa Senators announced their first captain since the departure of defenseman Erik Karlsson in 2018 when they named Brady Tkachuk as the new captain of the Senators. It was a monumental announcement, one that had been rumored during the offseason as Tkachuk and the Senators negotiated a new long term deal.

On Saturday afternoon Tkachuk and his Senators faced off against the defending Stanley Cup Champions in the Tampa Bay Lightning for his first game as the franchise's new captain and Tkachuk showed up in a huge way. The Lightning were up a goal and it looked as though they would be headed into the second intermission with a one goal cushion, but a late effort from Tkachuk and Senators forward Drake Batherson would even the score. Batherson would set up Tkachuk with a fantastic pass across the ice and the new Senators captain would make no mistake, burying the puck behind Lightning backup goaltender Brian Elliott.

There was no mistaking how much the moment meant for Tkachuk as the elation was clearly painted all across his face. He celebrated the goal with a celly in the corner before unleashing an audible yell in spite of the noise from the Senators faithful in attendance.
