Suspension coming? Is Hagel out for Team Canada now?
UPDATE: No suspension coming from NHL Player Safety for Seth Jones after last night's elbow/forearm to the head of Brandon Hagel.
Read below for our earlier reports on this developing story.
Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brandon Hagel left last night's 5-2 loss to the Florida Panthers with an apparent concussion after taking a brutal elbow to the head from Panthers defenseman Seth Jones.
Here's the play in question:
Hagel makes a quick stop up at the blue line, forcing Jones to quickly put on the brakes. The problem though is that Jones leads with his forearm and ends up catching a piece of Hagel with his elbow. It's a brutal hit that appeared to rock Hagel immediately.
Hagel did not return to action and the team has said only that he has suffered an upper body injury.
The 27 year old Saskatoon native has 18 goals and 31 points in 32 games so far for the Lightning and is expected to be a member of Canada's Olympic roster in just over a month and a half. Stay tuned for an update on his status moving forward.
