Former National Hockey League enforcer Brandon Prust has gotten himself into something of a controversy on Sunday after he published a tweet that appears to have sparked the anger of many fans on social media. Prust was commenting on recent events in America that have sparked up debate regarding the level of brutality employed by American law enforcement officers, but unlike others who have spoken out previously Prust appeared to have some sympathy for the officers.

If I had to summarize his take I would say that Prust appeared to be calling for all parties involved to be held accountable for their actions, however he was not particularly eloquent in the way he delivered his statement. Here's what Prust said, in his own words, unedited and in full:

"I think if we made resisting arrest a life sentence things would be different. A lot of bad stuff we see starts with resisting arrest. Maybe if both sides are held highly accountable for cooperation people won’t get hurt. Nothin good comes from bein a dick head. Cops included."

The responses the former winger received thus far have not been positive to say the least, although Prust himself does not appear to be at all phased by the backlash he is receiving. One responder had a polite take when he told Prust "Not sure how this one will be received by the masses," but the former NHLer appeared to have very little interest in the opinion of the masses.

"95% of the masses r b*tches, just throwing it out there for the odd smart person to see this hypothetical," wrote Prust in response.

One person responded suggesting that Prust had written a "Tone deaf tweet!" however once again Prust responded by being dismissive, seemingly not the least bit phased by how people will interpret his comments.

"I didn't put any music to this tweet..." quipped Prust.

Prust has once again tweeted out mocking his detractors, unwilling to be moved by the criticism.

"So at the end of the day resisting arrest is a none issue," added Prust. "Got it.. man how dumb can I be thinking it could have a small percentage of the reason for some bad outcomes. How naive of me"

Stay tuned for updates.
