Some surprising and unexpected news to announce on Tuesday.

According to a report from General Fanager, an National Hockey League financial aggregate site, veteran forward Tim Jackman has retired from professional hockey after 13 years in the National Hockey League.

Jackman broke into the NHL in 2003 as a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets and spent the first several years of his NHL career playing between the NHL and AHL as he bounced around to several teams including the Coyotes, Kings, and Islanders.

However in the 2009-2010 season Jackman would earn himself a role as a full time NHLer with the Islanders, and continued in that role with both the Flames and the Ducks until he was sent back down to the AHL this past season.

It's unclear if that played a role in Jackman's decision to retire today, but one has to imagine it was in the back of his mind. He will end his NHL career with 482 games under his belt, 32 goals 43 assists and 806 penalty minutes.
