The Montreal Canadiens' worst fears have been confirmed.

On Friday the team announced that it had lost the services of core forward Brendan Gallagher for a period of no less than two months after he was injured when a huge shot struck him in the hand.

The shot resulted in damage that will require surgery, and it is that surgery that will lead Gallagher to miss significant time as he goes through the recovery process.

It's important to note that the Habs themselves have called this a "minimum" of 2 months, so it could be that Gallagher is out even longer.
