A young National Hockey League forward has suffered a major setback in his rehabilitation.

New York Islanders winger Shane Prince was rehabbing from a high-ankle sprain this summer when his doctors informed him that his progress was not going at all according to plan.

Doctors refereed Prince to specialists who evaluated his progress and they felt that it was best for Prince to opt into surgery and that is exactly what he has done, presumably the best move for his long-term health.

However this will come at a big cost for the Islanders as Prince is now expected to miss anywhere from four to six months due to the injury, and this after the best NHL season of his professional career.

Prince appeared in 50 games for the Islanders last year, nearly half his total NHL career games up until that point, and recorded 5 goals and 13 assists over that stretch. That 18 total points represents exactly half his career total for points in his NHL career.

Here's to hoping Prince can make a full and relatively speedy recovery, and more importantly hopefully this doesn't sidetrack his NHL dreams.
