There have been a number of waiver transactions this week in the National Hockey League and that trend continued on Friday.

The latest announcement comes from Sportsnet insider Chris Johnston, who has just revealed that the Detroit Red Wings have made the decision to waive 25-year-old defenseman Alexey Marchenko.

While Marchenko has seen limited playing time at the NHL level this season he has put up respectable numbers in the 30 games in which he appeared for Detroit. While he doesn't light up the scoreboard having just six points this season, all of which are assists, he has managed a respectable plus minus rating of +6 on a team that has struggled at times.

It also has to be mentioned that Marchenko currently counts for less than $1.5 million against the cap, something that could make him appealing to teams looking to add inexpensive depth to their roster prior to the postseason.
