Breaking: 26-year-old defenseman is headed to the waiver wire on Wednesday.

Teams looking for depth on defense may be paying close to attention to the Montreal Canadiens today.

There are now multiple reports claiming that 26-year-old defenseman Mark Barberio will be placed on waivers at noon, and if that is indeed the case it seems highly likely that he will be claimed.

Barberio, a former sixth round draft pick from the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2008, has shown to be a serviceable option in his past two seasons with the Habs appearing in a total of 56 games from the club over that stretch. While Barberio doesn't light the score sheet on fire, his stable presence on the blue line has afforded him a positive plus minus rating in both his season with Montreal, and considering the teams collapse last season that is a notable accomplishment.

While there are certainly several teams who could claim Barberio, Eric Engels of Sportsnet believes the Winnipeg Jets should be at or near the top of that list.
