It appears that it is only a matter of time before the Winnipeg Jets pull the trigger on a deal involving veteran defenseman Jacob Trouba.

According to a breaking news from New York Rangeres insider Larry Brooks of the New York Post, there are now 3 teams that are making significant pushes in an effort to convince the Jets to pull the trigger on a trade for the soon to be free agent. Brooks reports that his sources have informed him that both the New York Rangers and the New York Islanders are "among the most aggressive teams in pursuit of Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba."  Additionally it appears that the New Jersey Devils are also in the mix, although Brooks ranked them a little behind the aforementioned Islanders and Rangers.

This would pit 3 of the National Hockey League's most formidable general managers against one another with Jeff Gorton representing the Rangers, Lou Lamoriello leading the New York Islanders and Ray Shero at the helm of the New Jersey Devils. Brooks fears that this will lead to something of an arms race which could end up significantly driving up the price on a trade for Trouba. According to Brooks' sources the Jets are reportedly looking for a first round pick as well as a pair of quality prospects or young NHL ready players in return for Trouba, a steep price when you consider that he will also command a significant contract extension as well. Brooks has speculated that Trouba could command as much as $7.5 million in average annual value over the term of his next contract.

As for what could be going back the other way? Brooks believes the Rangers could dangle Winnipeg's own 1st round pick that they acquired as a part of the deal for Kevin Hayes prior to the 2019 NHL trade deadline as well as Pavel Buchnevich and Nils Lundkvist as potential chips in that deal. As for the other 2 teams Brooks has speculated that the Islanders could potentially dangle their first round pick in 2018 Noah Dobson, while the Devils could dangle Jesper Bratt, Jesper Boqvist or Ty Smith, although he admitted that Smith was unlikely to be offered.

One way or another, it sounds like the Jets are going to get a good offer in the end with Brooks speculating that as many as a dozen teams may have interest in him.
