We have some breaking news to report.
According to a report from the New York Islanders official website, the team has made the decision to terminate head coach Jack Capuano effective immediately.
The Islanders have also released the following statement:
"The New York Islanders would like to thank Jack for his tireless work throughout his seven seasons with the organization as Head Coach," Snow said. "His leadership guided the team to the playoffs in three of the past four years, which included two straight 100-point seasons. He is a great coach and an even better person. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward."
The team's current assistant general manager Doug Weight, a name that will be very familiar to long-time NHL fans, is set to take over as the team's new interim head coach for an undetermined period of time.
More to come.
