Breaking: Another Russian cut and headed back to KHL

According to a report from Sportsnet analyst and NHL insider Elliotte Friedman the Edmonton Oilers have placed 22-year-old defenseman Ziyat Paigin on undconditional waivers.

It’s expected that Paigin will clear waivers and then have his contract terminated, clearing the way for him to return back home to Russia. The 6’6”, 209 lb blue liner has played only seven games with the Oilers’ AHL affiliate the Bakersfield Condors this season and was not a candidate to receive an NHL call up anytime soon.

No word yet on where exactly he’ll end up, but he’s previously played for Kazan Ak-Bars and Sochi HC in the KHL.
